ILAM ELECTED AS A FULL MEMBER OF IFEX
2013-06-18
Nazareth – On Monday, I'lam was elected to Membership in the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX).
I'lam’s membership in the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) was upgraded from interim to full member. The event took place on Monday morning in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where the IFEX General Conference met to select members for the current year. IFEX includes more than eighty international, regional, and national organizations from around the world working on the defense of freedom of opinion and expression.
The Director of I'lam, Professor Amal Jamal, attended the conference, giving a detailed explanation of I'lam's work and freedom of expression in Israel.
He was proud of I'lam's acceptance into IFEX, which strengthened I'lam's ability to defend individual and collective freedom of expression of Palestinian media practitioners in Israel and democratizing the Israeli media in general.
I'lams IFEX membership will enable it to network with various organizations around the world, including the Committee to Protect Journalists, Freedom House, and the International Federation of Journalists. These connections will help I'lam in its pursuit to strengthen freedom of expression and its impact on respect for international freedoms, including in Israel, where it is the only member of this important network.
The team of Ilam expresses its keen commitment to engage with, learn from and contribute to the network, and continues to take on the many challenges to our shared, fundamental right to free expression.
