I'lam Demands Increase in Number of Arabs in Television Production
2013-07-30
I'lam sent a letter this week to Dr. Amir Jilat, Chairman of the Broadcasting Authority and Committee Chairman of the Broadcasting Content Authority, asking him to reconsider the Arab audience share in domestic television production, especially after learning that the Authority will raise the rate of broadcast production by 80% for 2013. This decision is expected to raise the rate of production and quality of the content broadcast on Israeli Broadcasting Authority channels.
I'lam's research indicates that there is an intentional disregard for Arabs in official television broadcasts in all areas, including production, despite their contribution by paying the TV tax. There is a need for equitable distribution in domestic public productions and content quality.
In response to the letter, Jilat stated that the subject was under discussion and would be addressed later, taking I'lam's demand into account according to proposed budgets. Jilat also called on I'lam to ask for his position on this issue in the Broadcasting Authority sessions that will be held later.
