Beginning the ‘ The Leader Project’ to Train New Community Leaders
2015-04-16
The newly formed ‘The Leader Project’ aims to tackle a leadership deficit in the Palestinian community in
Israel (PCI), through the restoration and support of a young Arab leadership. This week we have held
personal interviews with the project applicants, and the Project Jury – which includes I’lam’s General
Director Amal Jamal – decided to choose 18 of these young people to participate. The project consists of
a training course in leadership skills, and a competition in which the participants will compete for the
title of ‘Pioneer’ and a prize of $1,500. The Jury has expressed their satisfaction with the applicants
selected, and believes that there will be stiff competition among them for excellence as they develop
their abilities and skills throughout the project.
The project will include a range of tests in the field of leadership, including the opportunity for
participants to raise awareness and promote change on an issue of concern to them within the PCI. They
will also seek to place these issues on the agendas of local authorities, NGOs and the media.
